White Circles IV. Anniversary

WHITE CIRCLES is a home for lovers of Synth Wave, Post Punk, Shoegaze, EBM, Electronic Avant-Garde (…) based in Leipzig, Germany. We host live gigs by exciting local and international acts of different genres (…)’ since September 2013.

10th November 2017 from 10 PM,

WHITE CIRCLES hosted its 4th anniversary and cooperated with the Institut fuer Zukunft. If you had taken the underground train from Leipzig Mainstation, it was fast ‘n’ easy to reach the Station MDR next to the IFZ. It rather spreads a certain attractive cold charm of a shut down factory. A charm made of inconspicuousness.

The warm-up

It was an enjoyable warm-up made by Bigo and Aehm. These guys get the crowd into shape for the upcoming artists of the evening. Bigo set up a mixing of sonic dark waves including Lebanon Hannover, Schonwald und DSX feat. Zanias that were crumbling over the dance floor reaching the crowd in dusty shades and dawning blue and red lights. Aehm convinces with his superb Live-Set. His tonal preferences amount to IDM, Glitch, Wave and Techno. The crowd turned into creatures swaying and stomping simultaneously on the ground. Aehm created a delightful noise. It resounded like cold reverberation from a vitreous urban façade.

Two bands’ performances & one label runner live-set the event’s themes

The next band welcomed us with some ghostly opalescent guitar sound. The shoegaze and post-punk-based band Veil of Light from Zurich, let us know how to exhaust synth and guitar. The singer convinced by setting up some glassy synth lines. Their act was violent and vital with vocals covered in rage. A rage that was erupting in the urge passing over the stage to continue playing amid the crowd. The performance’s peak occurring in gesticulating in vain and throwing their instruments on the floor.

Sid and Eddy were starting after a short break. During that break the crowd’s density was increasing rapidly. Schwefelgelb set up their first catchy beat line and heartbeats of techno lovers begun to merge with it into one. The crowd response was amazing – lost and drawn to the performance of the Berlin-based Techno duo. Sid was mainly focused into vocals and into hitting here and then the buttons to trigger some effects. A dancer incognito on stage and Sid were stimulating the crowd with dance moves. Eddy was behind the machines to keep the beat rolling. The very harsh and sweeping loops caught the dancer right from the start. Dancers got even more triggered by epileptic-electrifying strobe flash lights. What a show! They were acid (sulphur) on the dance floor! The irritating substance for mad dancing!

According to IFZ‘s philosophy, taking photos of acts and the club inside is forbidden when an event takes place. This is why there is not any self-made photo in the review.

All in all, this event was gorgeous and intoxicating for people who fancy dark techno music. On one hand, Strobel added fuel in Schwefelgelb’s started fire. On the other hand, Aehm was up to trigger that fueled fire even more by Techno, EBM and Industrial vibes. The closing part was a noise crescendo! A perfect mixture for letting die early morning hours away…
