Post Scriptum is the brainchild of an anonymous producer rumored to be Peter Sliwinski aka Echoplex, a project which surprised many techno aficionados with a self-named debut album published by Function‘s label Infrastructure New York in 2015. Here, he showed us a personal take on techno-industrial, full of elements of the past grounded in a solid and modern setting with a futuristic and forward-looking sound which managed to gather many followers.
Now, In 2017, he returns with two EPs, Until You Drop (the one here reviewed) licensed by Adam X‘s label Sonic Groove on vinyl, and Year Zero published under Post Scriptum own new label PS. Four tracks, three new numbers and a final different edit of the third track, where his sound keeps going forward, showing us some new elements and the ability to move between “proper” techno and electro-industrial soundscapes.
Dark as you like is a bombastic opener, true to its name thanks to a pitch black atmosphere in which industrial beats unfold themselves among creepy and grim vocals. An electro-infused crescendo reminds us of the noir moments of Haujobb, until the track explodes in a futuristic rhythmic attack. Drop zone is a noisy techno affair, full of steady rhythms, distortions and acid effects, while You won’t find me plays with an almost sacramental atmosphere, where cybernetic beats and robotic loops interlopes the soundscape, giving us a growing attack full of menace. The number ends in a techno-industrial Maelstrom with riffing effects and abrasive drums.
A really great EP which shows us many facets of one of the most interesting and original techno projects in recent years. Techno infused beats, dark patterns and sounds, menacing attacks and electro-industrial elements are fused in a modern way, giving us something new not afraid, at the same time, of mainstream limits or “underground rules”. One to listen to if you are a fan of techno industrial music, for sure.
