Human Spine – S/T

Published by Alessandro Violante on April 10, 2024

human-spineAfter having released music with the moniker A.T.T. Corp (together with the acclaimed Thomas Chalandon) on the Dutch label Strange Therapy, and with the moniker Incendie on Under My Feet., Aufnahme+Wiedergabe, and X-IMG, showcasing his eclectic approach to dark electronic and post-metal music, Athur Bdt has recently released his new release, together with his long-time friend Blime Dust, with the well-appreciated Berlin-based label Voidance Records.

Human Spine is both the name of this new collaborative project and that of their first release, which partly sounds like what Incendie has shown us with his previous releases, but with a more minimalist approach, especially in terms of drum programming.

Arthur and Blime Dust started making music together since they were at high school, evolving from rock to post-hardcore and post-metal music.

In its four songs, each having its clearly defined personality, Human Spine showcase us a music based on dark and melancholic atmospheres, harshly processed vocals, heavy riffing, minimalist drumming and industrial noise. Could their music be defined in terms of experimental dark electronics? Maybe yes, but definitely with a modern approach, so it’s better defining it as the result of their experiences, music tastes and long-term friendship.

The opener, Eternal, is the longest song of the release. It starts with a melancholic atmosphere, processed growls and metal riffing, then the martial drumming comes expressing a sorrowful emotional climax. This happens twice, then industrial noise sounds and the already mentioned melancholic atmosphere close the song.

The following song, Ritual, has an experimental industrial post-metal soul. Processed screams, spoken word and more syncopated apocalyptic beats, noise layers and the always present heavy riffing are perfectly mixed together.

Temporal has doom metal influences, while the ending song Transition is more focused on explosive and hard-hitting beats.

These so different four songs sound very well together, and we hope Human Spine will keep on releasing music like this in the future.
