Although during the last years Geistform has become widely known for its releases with labels such as Pi Electronics and Sacred Court, its story began more than twenty years ago, and is linked to that of Dirk Ivens.
Ivens is still considered one of the most influential old school industrial musicians, who played in bands such as Dive, Sonar, The Klinik and Absolute Body Control. Besides these iconic projects, with its label Daft Records, he released music made by Esplendor Geométrico, Alvar and Monolith. Among its discoveries, there was Geistform.
In 2002, Daft Records released its first album Uno, followed by Sequentia 2.0 in 2005. With its first release, Geistform already showed all its trademarks, clearly perceivable in each release.
Geistform music is surely influenced by that of Pan Sonic, and his strong analogue touch makes listeners immersing themselves into a world populated by radio antennas, transmitters and nuclear reactors.
That’s a world that can make the listeners think about the dangers of nuclear disasters such as that happened in Chernobyl. It’s not by chance that, with the pseudonym Univac, it has released an album entitled Chernobyl Tracks.
In 2008, after having released the two aforementioned albums with Daft Records, he released its first album with Hands Productions, entitled Pro Analogic, and with it, the artist became well known and appreciated in the rhythmic noise scene of those years, and played in iconic festivals such as Maschinenfest, which last edition happened in 2018. Since 2019, it has released new music with other labels. Its last EP, entitled Antena, was released last year by Trauma Collective.
On 25th September, his new LP, titled Resonancia, has been released by the Spanish label 30D of the artist 30drop. The label is inspired by 1940s and 1950s SciFi and focuses on innovation and experimentation in underground electronic music. Its last album was released in 2019 by Hands Productions on CD format.
During these 21 years, Geistform music has also surely been influenced by what has been released by rhythmic noise and underground techno music, while staying loyal to its roots.
If compared to its most recent releases, with the eleven songs of Resonancia, Geistform goes particularly back to its roots, far from underground music trends, giving us a visionary release bringing us inside a nuclear energy power plant.
Of course the album includes many minimalistic rhythm-driven songs, but also more pure noise outputs such as Radiation Room, Resonator, Última Emisión and Ciclos Por Segundo. All these songs irradiate us with their sharp and analogue noise walls.
The tracklist is wisely conceived in order to make us living an experience going beyond the pure act of listening to music, but which also makes us think about the world we live in and the risks that the use of nuclear energy could have.
For all these reasons, we could consider Resonancia as the best Geistform release since its albums released by Daft Records. With this LP, Geistform shows us its most sincere and genuine soul.
