Blac Kolor is the techno industrial project of German musician Hendrick Grothe dedicated to dark, obsessive rhythmic electronic music. We have already reviewed some of his works as the two full length albums Wide Noise and Born In Ruins, and now we’re going to analyze his last effort called Violate EP, published as always under Daniel Myer & Wolfgang Thumbs‘ label Basic Unit Productions.
We will find here four tracks made of hypnotizing rhythmic sequences, old school snares and sampled loops. Once again he manages to be at the same time menacing and enthralling, with a hard sound to make our bodies dance during sweaty nightclubbing.
Concrete soul is a thundering techno affair made of snares, claps, and percussion, recalling both European techno and electro, while the title track is a dark and throbbing ride full of obscure atmosphere and mesmerizing vocal samples. Tagebauten is a more experimental affair playing with industrial distortions and militant rhythms, and the final track Dark sky is a collaboration with experimental EBM/electro project DSX a.k.a Dejan Samardzic of Haujobb, full of old school basslines and addictive sounds and drums.
High quality EBM/electro infused techno is here to be found as always, keeping the stakes high as well with a playful and skillful nature. Four tracks made for the dancefloor, but characterized by their own identity even if linked by a dominating dark, obscure atmosphere.
